Frequently Asked Questions
Why build a new library in Sterling Ranch?
We are excited to respond to the community’s growth and demand for library spaces and services through continued dedication to our strategic plan. A new library in Sterling Ranch is also in line with commitments we have made in our facilities plan, to provide customers with premium libraries that meet community needs.
The northwest part of the county is growing! Roxborough Park and Roxborough Village are home to 10,000 people, and Sterling Ranch is a premier, fast-growing master-planned community. As of early 2026, Sterling Ranch is the number one best-selling community in Colorado, with over 3,000 residents, a 6.68% annual growth rate, and plans to expand to 16,000 homes. We are excited to respond to this growth with library spaces and offerings that will serve you now and into the next generation.
Who is funding the new library?
Douglas County Libraries sets money aside into savings to improve existing buildings and build new ones. This capital savings fund and a generous land donation by Sterling Ranch are our sources for this project, budgeted at $21.7 million. This amount includes site development and building construction (approximately $11 million); furniture, fixtures, and equipment ($3.5 million); and design and professional fees ($1.3 million). The budget also covers preconstruction costs, permits, insurance, contingencies, and other standard project-related expenses.
What is the timeline for this project?
Our library’s Board of Trustees approved a budget and contracts for the new library in Sterling Ranch in late 2025. Groundbreaking is set for Summer 2026. Construction will require about a year, plus additional time to transition library services from the current Roxborough location to the new one.
What will the new library look like?
The new library will be built near the intersection of W Titan Rd and Taylor River Circle, bordered to the south by Piney River Ave. Its 18,000 square feet, designed in alignment with Sterling Ranch’s master-planned vision, will house library collections, interactive children’s spaces, an event hall, two conference rooms, five reservable study rooms, and other spaces for connection or quiet reflection. Its exterior will feature a terrace, plaza, and children’s garden perfect for community gathering, plus 84 dedicated on-site parking spaces and a convenient drive-thru book return.
Library users and non-users in our community rate the library very high for value, citing the modern, multi-phase features noted above. These values inform the design process, help ensure that amenities are built upon community needs, and reinforce a shared commitment to education, access, and community enrichment.
Is this project part of a long-term plan?
Community support has kept Douglas County Libraries blazing trails and growing for over 35 years. Thank you for allowing us to serve you! We look forward to building a new library in Sterling Ranch, and continuing to bring new, innovative features to all of our libraries, so we can grow with you, your family, and our community for years to come.
In 2016, Douglas County Libraries funded and built three new libraries in the underserved communities of Parker, Castle Pines, and Lone Tree. We have also renovated the library in Highlands Ranch, and replaced the library in Castle Rock, moving it from its former site inside a renovated grocery store to a two-story, state-of-the-art building at the same address.
The current library in Roxborough does not meet the needs of its growing population and community. An inefficient and inflexible layout in a leased space inhibits our ability to offer the full spectrum of services and full complement of events and activities our community demands.
